Wine Recommendation

Colibri Ridge Winery and Vineyard

2007 Viognier
(Fair Play)

As a 2007 Viognier this white is holding up very well yet with a somewhat deeper straw color than would be expected of a young wine. Grown at 2700 feet in the Fair Play AVA of the the Sierra Foothills this is a high altitude white. Known as an aromatic, some of the fresh aroma has departed but the underlying flavors remain. Surprising stength of acidity continues to present a bright energy mid palate that slowly moves to a zesty finish that lingers for some time.

Winemaker John Alexander barrel fermented this wine in neutral oak barrels and the subtle effects still show signs of slight oak barrel, yet do not bury the wine under oak flavors. He feels there is still a good year or more of life to this wine and it shows the power of Viognier in the Fair Play AVA and Sierra Foothills AVA.

Drink chilled on a warm summer twilight eve!
